Phoenix College's Teacher Education and Child & Family Studies Programs include both certificate and degree options in:

The Phoenix College Teacher Education Program (PCTEP) is designed to provide students interested in working in preK-12 schools the first two years of required foundation coursework that will transfer to a four-year institution. Courses offer students the opportunity to learn about educational concepts and engage in field experiences.

PCTEP has developed partnerships with rural, urban, suburban and reservation schools for practical field experiences. PCTEP also provides continuing education and training for certified and classified preK-12 teachers and staff through coursework, leadership and professional growth workshops, and other activities throughout the year.

Associate in Arts in Elementary Education (AAEE)

The AAEE degree is designed for the student who plans to transfer to an elementary education, early childhood education, special education or multilingual/multicultural program at an Arizona public higher education institution and/or who plans to become a classroom instructional aide. The degree transfers as a block without loss of credit to Arizona's public universities.

Associate in Arts (AA)

The AA is designed for students who plan to transfer to an Arizona public university. Degree offerings include early childhood education, elementary education, secondary education, and special education.

Associate Transfer Partnership (ATP) degree in Elementary Education

The ATP is offered for students transferring to Arizona State University Tempe or West Campus. It is specifically for students who are certain of their major and the campus they will attend.

Phoenix College Center for Navajo Teacher Education

The Center for Navajo Teacher Education offers professional degrees and certificates that prepare students for a career in the field of teaching, with an emphasis on teaching Navajo children at the elementary and secondary school levels. This creates a direct pathway to Arizona State University’s Indigenous Teacher Preparation Program (ITP). Native American and non-native American students will receive ongoing support from a Navajo Teacher Education faculty advisor; become exposed to Navajo faculty who use culturally relevant teaching methods and materials; and have an opportunity to gain professional skills through learning field experiences at urban and reservation schools with Native students.

Structured English Immersion

The Structured English Immersion (SEI) Training Program provides the necessary coursework for current teachers to acquire a provisional and/or full endorsement by the Arizona Department of Education. Courses are taught on-site or at Phoenix College by certified instructors.

Future Teachers Club

The Phoenix College Future Teachers Club provides support activities for future early childhood, elementary and secondary educators through service learning projects with local schools, informational meetings with university advisors, mentoring relationships with Phoenix College faculty, and contact with dynamic educational leaders in our community.

Educating the Heart Workshops

The Cesar E. Chavez Foundation’s Educating the Heart workshops provide educators, community members, youth and parents with the skills, tools, and resources necessary to develop school and community-based service-learning programs that exemplify the values and principles of Cesar Chavez. Workshop objectives include: 1) educating participants about the life, work, and values of Cesar Chavez, 2) equipping participants with skills, tools, and strategies to develop Chavez service-learning programs, 3) providing Chavez service-learning models and standards-based resources to enhance the quality and impact of Chavez service-learning, and 4) planning feasible Chavez service-learning programs in their own communities.

Phoenix College’s Child & Family Studies Program is designed to offer students the following degrees, focused certificates and course offerings that support career paths in Early Childhood Education, Family Development and Adolescent Studies:

Teacher Preparation Charter High School

Teacher Preparation Charter High School (TPCHS) was established by the Maricopa County Community College District to help high school students reach their goal of becoming future teachers. TPCHS’s program of study focuses on preparing students in grades 9-12 for employment as an educator in an Arizona public school. Students take high school and college credit courses at the same time, and have the opportunity to obtain a two-year college degree by the time they graduate from high school! TPCHS is under the direct supervision of Phoenix College and South Mountain Community College.

TPCHS offers:
