Architecture and Construction

Architecture and construction workers design and erect buildings and structures such as streets, highways, bridges, and utility systems. As one of the largest industry sectors in the U.S, architecture and construction employs nearly eight million people with $350 billion in wages. Jobs in architecture and construction pay well and long-term prospects for job growth remains strong, particularly for skilled trades such as electricians, plumbers, surveyors, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) technicians, building inspectors, engineers, and architects. The population of Greater Phoenix is projected to increase by nearly two million by 2025. This population will require new residential and commercial buildings and infrastructure, and the continued presence of a large workforce to design and build these structures.

The Maricopa Community Colleges offer degree, certificate, and apprenticeship programs in construction trades such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and roofing. In addition, programs are available in construction management, inspection, civil engineering, surveying, architecture, and computer aided drafting and design.
