Health Services

The health services industry provides medical assistance to individuals. It is one of the largest and fastest growing industry sectors in the country employing 15 million people with over $600 billion in wages. Employment demand in health services is expected to increase in the years to come due to favorable demographic trends, namely, an aging American population driven by a large cohort of nearly 80 million Baby Boomers approaching retirement age. Half of the 30 occupations identified by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics as being the fastest growing in the next decade are in health services, including personal and home care aids, veterinary technologists and technicians, medical assistants, pharmacy technicians, dental assistants, and physical therapists.

The Maricopa Community Colleges offer over 50 degree and certificate programs in nursing and allied health fields such as EMT, pharmacy, dentistry, medical office, and medical technology. Maricopa’s commitment to health services education has led it to create a Department of Health Care Education within its division of Academic Affairs. This department is responsible for coordinating district-wide health services initiatives and working with the local healthcare community to meet workforce needs. For more specific information about health services enrollment and programs available through the Maricopa Community Colleges, please go to the Health Care Education website.
