Information Technology

Information technology (IT) is the study, design, development, implementation, support, and management of computer-based information systems. The IT sector includes companies in the telecommunication, software publishing, computer programming, and computer systems design industries. In addition, IT-related occupations such as computer programmers, network administrators, and computer support specialists are present across all industry sectors. IT has been a major driver in the U.S. economy for over three decades. Over 3 million people work in IT-related occupations in the U.S. Of the 30 occupations identified by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics as being the fastest growing in the next decade, five are in IT. They include computer software engineers (both applications and systems software), computer systems analysts, database administrators, and the fastest growing occupation in the U.S. - network systems and data communications analysts.

The Maricopa Community Colleges offers a wide variety of courses, degrees, and certificates in information technology subjects including computer information systems, programming and systems analysis, web design and development, and web server administration. Training and certification programs are available in vendor-specific technologies such as Microsoft Office applications, Microsoft and Oracle database administration, and Cisco and Linux networking technology.
