Public Workforce System Initiatives
A primary focus of the Center for Workforce Development is to ensure that the Greater Phoenix economy has a skilled labor pool that meets the existing and emerging workforce needs of the employer community and career seekers. To that end, the Center maintains active active partnerships with the Phoenix Workforce Connection and Maricopa Workforce Connections by providing on-site staff at the comprehensive One-Stop Career Centers and representation on the Local Workforce Investment Boards.
One-Stop Career Center Partnerships
The Maricopa Community Colleges, Center for Workforce Development provides individual and workshop based support services at four local, comprehensive One-Stop Career Centers located in the Greater Phoenix area.
Through these centers you can, in one stop, get access to current job openings, job search resources, unemployment insurance benefits information, job readiness assessments, and occupational training for those who qualify. The Maricopa Community Colleges, MCCCD Representatives work on site at the One-Stop Career Centers, serving as the on site experts for career counseling and academic advising for the breadth of certificate and degree programs offered at the ten Colleges and two Skill Centers that make up the Maricopa County Community College District.
Local Workforce Investment Boards
The Center for Workforce Development provides representation on both the Phoenix and Maricopa Local Workforce Investment Boards who, in partnership with local elected officials, plan and oversee the local workforce system. Local boards designate "One-Stop" operators and identify providers of training services, monitor system performance against established performance measures, negotiate local performance measures with the state board and the Governor, and help develop the labor market information system.
