Advisory Committees
Shortly after Dr. Rufus Glasper was appointed Chancellor in September, 2003, he authorized the establishment of Community Advisory Committees.
Five Community Advisory Committees were established, as follows:
- The African American Community Advisory Committee;
- The Asian Pacific Islander Community Advisory Committee;
- The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender (GLCT) Community Advisory Committee;
- The Latino Community Advisory Committee;
- The Native American Community Advisory Committee.
The purposes of the Chancellor's Community Advisory Committees were to:
- Convene representatives of a particular community;
- Obtain counsel and candid input from the members individually and collectively concerning the Maricopa Community Colleges and the role they play in the Greater Phoenix area;
- Strengthen the relationships between and among the colleges and particular communities;
- Encourage Committee members to invite college and district representatives to interact with their community and participate in their community's activities.
Committee members were charged with the following:
- Attend meetings regularly;
- Provide counsel and candid input on issues;
- Identify issues of concern and discuss them with Committee members and the Chancellor;
- Communicate regularly with others in their community and the colleges;
- Assume other responsibilities/take actions, as appropriate and on a voluntary basis.
Each Committee meets two to three times per year with the Chancellor. Once or twice each year members of all five Committee meet together to hear a special message from the Chancellor or to discuss an issue of particular concern to all Committee members.
