Getting Started (Steps 1 - 4)

Step 1: Ask yourself if you are conducting human subjects research.
Here are several questions to help you:

Are you collecting data?
Are the data going to be used for generalizable knowledge (e.g., presentations, publications)?
Are the data about living people?

If you answered yes, you are probably doing Human Subjects Research. You can learn more about the guidelines for Human Subjects Research by completing relevant training.

Step 2: Complete Training on Human Subjects Research.

If you are Maricopa Employee or Maricopa student: Enroll in the online training at http://www.citiprogram.org under the Maricopa Community Colleges affiliation. (There is no charge to Maricopans.)

Students: Enroll in the Student Module, unless your faculty advisor for your research project recommends the Social Behavioral Module. (Your advisor also can guide you on completing the application form.)
Principal Investigators, Co PI's and Grants Project Directors: Enroll in the Social Behavioral Module.

If you are Not a Maricopan:

PI's and Co-PI's are asked to provide a copy of certificate indicating completion of CITI Training in human subjects research - the Social and Behavorial Module, along with the application form.

Step 3: Complete the Application Form for Human Subjects Research Projects. (See Application Form.)

Step 4: Email and mail your application and certificate of training to the Office(s) indicated. (See Application Process for instructions.)
