The
Services We Provide
The
Legal Services Department is responsible for serving the legal needs of
the Maricopa Community Colleges. This involves assessing the legal position
of the institution with respect to virtually any set of facts presented
(either in reality or hypothetical circumstance) and advising on the legal
impact of the situation and alternatives being considered.
The department also identifies changes in the legal environment (whether
by new legislation or case decision), and alerts the organization or individuals
of the changes and recommending actions to adjust to such changes. Fields
of law studied include, but are not limited to, administrative, bankruptcy,
commercial, construction, contracts, copyright and patents, criminal, education,
employee benefits, employment, employment discrimination, wrongful termination,
environmental, financial, government procurement, governmental affairs,
immigration, insurance, labor, liability and tort defense, litigation,
legislative drafting, personal property law, real estate, taxation, unemployment
compensation, and workers' compensation.
In addition to providing legal services to the Maricopa Community Colleges,
the department also houses the offices of the District's Risk Manager,
Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action Manager, and Travel Reduction
Coordinator.
