Non-Sworn Fire Service Professional
The Certificate of Completion (CCL) in Non-Sworn Fire Service Professional program is designed for students who need basic preparation courses to pursue a non-sworn career as a fire service professional and/or more comprehensive information about life safety, fire hazards, and prevention. A unique feature of the program is that the instructors are professional fire service personnel including firefighters.

Students must earn a grade of C or better in all courses within the program.
- Describe the chemical processes utilized in dealing with hazardous materials incidence. (FSC105)
- Identify the chemical and physical properties of hazardous materials. (FSC105)
- Analyze the problems concerning fire prevention techniques, procedures, regulations, code enforcement, and occupancy survey. (FSC106, FSC108, FSC208)
- Explain the characteristics and behavior of fire and extinguishing agents. (FSC113)
- Discuss fire suppression organization, basic fire fighting tactics, and public relations as affected by fire suppression. (FSC113)
- Evaluate the methods of attacking, controlling, and extinguishing various types of fires. (FSC113)
- Describe personal and practical skills needed to enhance customer service in the public sector. (FSC215)

The following is the suggested course sequence by term. Please keep in mind:
- Students should meet with an academic advisor to develop an individual education plan that meets their academic and career goals. Use the Degree Progress Report Tool in your Student Center to manage your plan.
- The course sequence is laid out by suggested term and may be affected when students enter the program at different times of the year.
- Initial course placement is determined by current district placement measures and/or completion of 100-200 level course and/or program requirements.
- Degree and transfer seeking students may be required to successfully complete a MCCCD First Year Experience Course (FYE) within the first two semesters at a MCCCD College. Courses include FYE101 and FYE103. Course offerings will vary by college. See an academic, program, or faculty advisor for details.
