What is Artificial Intelligence (AI)?
Artificial Intelligence (AI) uses machines to perform tasks that would normally rely on human intelligence, such as understanding language, decision-making, problem-solving, learning, pattern recognition, and adaptation. Some common uses of AI that you are likely familiar with are website chatbots, ChatGPT, Alexa or Siri, and automated recommendations for your online shopping carts.
There are many types of AI, including analytic AI, text AI, visual AI, machine learning, and natural language processing (NLP), but the most relevant for higher education is generative AI, which is a deep learning model that creates text, images, and videos that appear to be human-made.
Different professors set different expectations for the use of AI in their classes, so be sure to check with each professor to learn when and how AI can be used in each of your classes.
