Transfer Credit and Prior Learning Assessment

Maricopa Community Colleges is committed to the idea that people deserve credit for college-level learning that was done prior to attending Maricopa Community Colleges, no matter how it was acquired. If this learning is at the college-level and is verifiable, it can be evaluated for possible transfer credit. We refer to this evaluation as Prior Learning Assessment (PLA). Standard equivalency decisions are coordinated by professional evaluators in the Transfer Credit and Articulation Services Department at the Maricopa District Office. They work closely with faculty, Instructional Councils, and campus evaluators to determine equivalencies — with a goal to serve students by providing staff with the information and tools needed to articulate prior learning and build processes that adhere to our policies, while upholding academic integrity.
