Hazardous Materials Operations
The Certificate of Competency (CCT) in Hazardous Materials Operations provides training in basic methods of recognition and identification based upon the chemical and physical properties of hazardous materials; basic safety procedures when utilizing specific types of protective clothing and equipment; basic tactical information relating to scene management. Satisfies minimum standards for certification testing set forth by the current ProBoard and/or Arizona State Training and Certifying Authority.

This program is not eligible for Title IV Federal Financial Aid.
This pathway map will help you gain the expertise needed to:
- Define Hazardous Materials nationally and internationally.
- Identify the hazards to health and safety created by hazardous materials.
- Identify the risk assessment consideration made by first responders.
- Define requirements of the National Fire Protection Association and Department of Transportation.
- Explain the roles of police, fire departments, industrial, pre-hospital and hospital personnel, and other governmental and private agencies at the scene of a hazardous materials emergency.
- Identify the components of a pre-emergency plan for hazardous materials incidents.
Successful completion of this certificate may lead to employment in a variety of different occupations and industries. Students must earn a grade of ‘P’ or ‘C’ or better (depending on the course grading scale) for all courses required within the program.
