The Certificate of Competency (CCT) in Phlebotomy Practicum provides an opportunity for students to apply fundamental Phlebotomy and specimen processing skills in a clinical laboratory or healthcare environment, learn advanced procedures in a real-work setting, and connect students to employment opportunities.
This is a Fast Track Certificate, which can be completed in two semesters or less.

Admissions criteria
1. Background check requirements: Admission to an Allied Health program requires that students be in compliance with the Maricopa County Community College District Background Check Standards. Upon conditional program enrollment, the student must comply with all requirements of the MCCCD Background Check Policy.
2. Clinical health and safety requirements must be met. Upon conditional program enrollment, the student must comply with all requirements of the MCCCD Clinical Health and Safety Policy.
3. Inability to comply with background check requirements and/or clinical health and safety requirements at the start of classes may result in cancellation of enrollment.
4. 18 years of age to enroll.

This program is not eligible for Title IV Federal Financial Aid.

- Apply strategies in preparing for a Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) examination. (PLC122)
- Demonstrate an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the phlebotomy technician in hospitals, patient service centers, life insurance companies, doctors` offices, outreach services, and donor center settings. (PLC122)
- Perform mathematical calculations for dosage determinations and solution preparations. (PLC122)
- Demonstrate an understanding of legal, regulatory, professional, and ethical standards applicable to the role of pharmacy technicians. (PLC122)
- Demonstrate proficiency with brand and generic drug names, appearance, manufacturer, dosage forms(s), and route of administration for at least the top 200 drugs. (PLC122)
- Assess a prescription for completeness, accuracy, and authenticity to ensure patient safety. (PLC122)
- Identify proper customer service procedures related to professional communication, appearance, and knowledge of allowed duties when working under a licensed pharmacist in a variety of settings. (PLC122)
