Earn While You Learn
Federal Work-Study (FWS) is a type of financial aid and an excellent way to earn funds to help pay for your educational expenses while gaining invaluable work experience. Here’s how it works:
- You need to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and be considered work-study eligible.
- Your college will arrange a work schedule around your class schedule.
- Although the majority of work-study positions are located on-campus, the program also offers a growing number of off-campus, community service jobs.
- You do not need to have specific skills to get a work-study job—you just need to be willing and able to work.
Apply Today
In order to qualify for a FWS job, you must have a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) on file for the current award year, and have eligible financial need based on your college requirements. Contact the Office of Financial Aid at your college for more information.
More Details
- FWS does not directly pay for tuition, and funds are only available to eligible students attending a minimum of six (6) credit hours that apply toward a degree in a federal student aid eligible program.
- Your FWS award amount is based on your FAFSA results and your college funding availability, which will determine the number of hours available to work.
