The Maricopa Community College students now have the opportunity to learn to code thanks to a new partnership announced with Galvanize Inc.
The Denver-based data science and software engineering school and the Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) have launched a new program allowing students to earn academic college credit at South Mountain Community College for completing the Galvanize Web Development Immersive (WDI) program.
Through this partnership, students who complete the WDI program can earn up to 12 credits (nearly a full semester of academic credit). Students can then choose to enter the workforce immediately, continue pursuing their education or begin working while saving up to enroll in a four-year university.
“We continue to invest in the potential and future of our students and local community.” said Dr. Maria Harper-Marinick, Maricopa County Community College District Chancellor. “We are proud to be creating opportunities for our students to launch into successful careers as software designers, system analysts, and leaders in technologies that are changing the world.”
Arizona’s more than 8,000 technology companies support 168,000+ jobs and pay $15.7 billion in wages in 2016, according to a study performed by EImpact, a Portland-based web-based research firm. Arizona’s technology sector is thriving and contributing to an estimated $28.5 billion to Arizona’s economy.
