We are proud to announce an above-average mid-year pass rate for MCCCD students across the district who took the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification exam. Emergency Medical Technicians provide transportation and emergency medical care outside of a hospital environment for critical and emergency patients. MCCCD offers the EMT training program at six of our ten campuses. Notably, Mesa Community College is the largest EMT training program in the state, with a 97% mid-year exam pass rate.
Our faculty is deeply committed to providing our students with the highest quality instruction to build the skills they need to be successful in the emergency response field and our pass rate shows it. Through the first half of the year, MCCCD campuses sent 185 candidates to test for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) certification. Of those candidates, 164 passed, giving MCCCD an overall 88% pass rate. The average pass rate in Arizona for this exam was 81% over the same time period. - Phoenix College: Attempted - 6 | Passed - 5 | Pass Rate - 83%
- SouthWest Skills Center at GateWay Community College: Attempted - 15 | Passed - 12 | Pass Rate - 80%
The EMT training program at MCCCD campuses can be completed in 16-17 weeks. The program includes a variety of techniques for assessment, treatment, documentation, and evaluation of emergency care. Many states use the NREMT certification to license EMTs, which makes it very easy to grant reciprocity from one state to another.
We are extremely proud of the continued success of our EMT training programs across the district. EMT training is a requirement for all other emergency response programs including the paramedic program. Therefore, our EMT students not only have the opportunity to obtain well-paying entry-level EMT positions, but they are also poised to advance in their careers in the emergency response field!
