The Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) has been named a 2020 Healthy Arizona Worksites Program (HAWP) recipient. The District was honored by the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) and the Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) during their annual awards ceremony, held virtually on June 11, 2020, for achieving the program’s Gold level.
Developed through a partnership between ADHS and MCDPH, the statewide program provides Arizona employers with training, technical assistance, tools, and resources to help design, implement, and evaluate worksite wellness initiatives. The HAWP award recognizes MCCCD’s commitment to positively affecting the health and well-being of employees, their families, and communities across the Valley.
“The Wellness Maricopa team has spent the past year working toward this goal,” said Senior Wellness Coordinator, Kim Bentley. “Our collective efforts have allowed us to introduce innovative and engaging wellness-related content, while reinforcing the District’s commitment to promoting and supporting organizational and individual well-being, thus creating an environment built on significant and meaningful experiences.”
MCCCD has made strides in advocating and promoting employee’s mental health and physical well-being through a system-wide Wellness Maricopa initiative. The District-led, Wellness team recently launched the #YouMatter campaign, centered on the eight dimensions of wellness: emotional, spiritual, occupational, financial, social, environmental, intellectual, and physical. Together, the team works to supply employees with easily accessible resources on each dimension, ensuring all Maricopa faculty and staff have the ability to thrive both at work and at home.

In addition to the District accomplishment, eight of the ten Maricopa Community Colleges were also recognized for achieving Gold and Copper level status. The HAWP awards continues MCCCD’s commitment to workplace success, including being named one of Arizona’s Best Employers by Forbes in 2019 and the system’s recognition as a Leading Employer for Women in 2018.
