MCCCD Announces Chandler-Gilbert Community College as New State-Run Vaccination Site

The Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) is pleased to announce that Chandler-Gilbert Community College (CGCC) has transitioned to an Arizona State Department of Health Services (ADHS)-run COVID-19 vaccination point-of-dispensing (POD) site. The vaccination POD at CGCC’s Pecos Campus (located off of Loop 202 & Gilbert Rd) began operating as a state-run location on Wednesday, March 3. CGCC was previously a county-run vaccination POD and, as of March 3, has administered 155,000 vaccines. 

“On behalf of the Maricopa Community Colleges, I want to say thank you to the Arizona Department of Health Services and the Governor’s Office for selecting this site as its latest POD for vaccination,” said MCCCD Interim Chancellor Dr. Steven R. Gonzales. “We are honored to serve the community and get back up to speed as quickly as possible.” 

This announcement comes just days after Governor Doug Ducey and ADHS announced a new “hybrid” vaccination approach, allowing Arizonans ages 55 and older to receive the vaccine. Through MCCCD’s partnerships with the state of Arizona and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona, adding the CGCC site allows for all postsecondary faculty and staff to register for and receive vaccines.

In partnership with ADHS, MCCCD is hopeful to open its other College campuses as vaccination PODs, making the vaccine more accessible to the entire community. 

Making an Appointment 

While CGCC is hosting this POD, it does not coordinate appointments or vaccine distribution and does not have information regarding additional appointment availability.

Space is limited to a first-come, first-registered basis and many appointments have already been booked. The Department of Health Services will be creating additional appointment slots as the weeks' progress.
