The Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) is thrilled to announce that Interim Chancellor Dr. Steven R. Gonzales has been honored by Phoenix Business Journal (PBJ) as one of its Most Admired Leaders of 2022.

"While I am personally honored, this is more of a reflection of every employee I have the honor of working alongside each and every day. Over the last two years, our employees showed up day in and day out during some trying times with a laser focus on the students and communities we serve. Their unwavering commitment and the support of our Governing Board are what make the Maricopa Community Colleges special and I look forward to our continued impact on those we serve," said Dr. Gonzales. "The accomplishments during my tenure have only been possible due to the extraordinary faculty and staff of the Maricopa Community Colleges, so I share this honor with all of them."

Dr. Gonzales is joined by 24 other honorees, all of whom are community and industry leaders who champion innovation through corporate-giving programs, board service, and volunteerism. The awards, sponsored by Arizona Bank and Trust, celebrate Valley leaders for community leadership, professional accomplishments, and personal achievements.

"Dr. Gonzales has been a steadfast example of resilience and perseverance during his time as Maricopa Community Colleges (MCCCD) Interim Chancellor. He has guided our System through the pandemic while maintaining a vision for continued student success, organization stability, and innovation," said Marie Sullivan, President of the MCCCD Governing Board. "This recognition is truly deserved. My colleagues and I are honored to work with such a dynamic leader."

The honorees will be celebrated at the annual Most Admired Leaders Awards virtual event on Friday, May 20, in addition to being featured in the Most Admired Leaders Awards Special Section of PBJ’s May 20 issue. More information on the awards and the full list of 2022 honorees can be found here.
