The Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) is pleased to announce Janice Falkenberg, Esq. as the District’s next General Counsel. Falkenberg was selected after a nationwide executive search.
“As a first-generation college graduate and someone who has an understanding of the power of education, it is an incredible honor to be selected as the next General Counsel,” said Falkenberg. “I have a strong commitment to the mission of the community college system and really embrace equal access to quality education, as it is so important to the populations we serve. I am very much looking forward to making an impact at MCCCD.”
Falkenberg brings 25 years of legal experience to the District, with her last 18 years at Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC), the largest technical college in Wisconsin. She currently serves as the institution’s Vice President and General Counsel, possessing a broad range of experiences including complex litigation, risk, and compliance issues, as well as managing a variety of legal matters. Falkenberg is familiar with board governance discussions, policy development, business transactions and oversees legislative advocacy, facilities and public safety.

Prior to her employment at MATC, Falkenberg was a partner who served in private practice representing employers in labor and employment law with a particular emphasis on state and federal employment discrimination litigation, worker’s compensation, and health and safety matters.
Falkenberg earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota, majoring in Political Science and History, and her Juris Doctorate from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, MN.
She will begin her new role as the District’s General Counsel effective August 22, 2022.
