The Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) has selected three finalists for the next president of Glendale Community College (GCC). The search committee, comprised of college, student, and community representatives, has conducted a thorough screening and preliminary interviews with applicants in order to identify those best suited to lead GCC with long-term success.
Public forums with finalists will take place on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, from 1:30-4:30 p.m. The forums are open to students, employees, and the general public. Each forum allows the audience to ask questions and provide feedback that goes to the Chancellor for further consideration as part of a comprehensive and inclusive evaluation of each candidate. In alphabetical order, the finalists are:
Alessandro Anzalone, Ph.D.
Dr. Alessandro Anzalone currently serves as the Campus President for Martin County at Indian River State College (IRSC), Vice-President of FL Contract Growers Inc., and an Opera singer. As an innovator in higher education, Dr. Anzalone is always looking for the best way to meet the community's needs in the form and the location that better suits its members. He believes stackable credentials are a pathway to success, with multiple on and off-ramps that students can take based on their life and career circumstances. At IRSC, he has led efforts to open four different locations in underserved areas of Martin County – Indiantown High School, a workforce-focused high school; Martin County’s REACH Center, for short-term industry credentials; Stuart Training Center, for trades training; and Martin County’s Maritime Trades Training Center. Dr. Anzalone earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Universidad Nacional Experimental Politécnica in Venezuela, a master’s of science degree in chemical engineering from New York University’s Tandon School of Engineering, and a doctor of philosophy in chemical engineering from the University of South Florida (USF).
Tiffany Hernandez, Ph.D.
Dr. Tiffany Hernandez currently serves as the Vice President for Student Success at San Antonio College. She serves as San Antonio College’s accreditation liaison to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges. Most recently, Dr. Hernandez led a successful fifth-year interim compliance report, site visit, and off-campus instructional site review. She also led the substantive change review and site visit for approval as a baccalaureate-granting institution to offer a bachelor’s degree in nursing, the first baccalaureate degree approved in the Alamo Colleges District. Dr. Hernandez’s collaborative leadership at San Antonio College contributed to the College receiving the 2021 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, and the Seal of Exceléncia from Exceléncia in Education. Dr. Hernandez holds a bachelor’s degree in Russian language from the University of Arizona, a juris doctorate from the University of Utah College of Law, and a doctor of philosophy in criminal justice from Texas State University.
Shannon Ydoyaga, Ph.D.
Dr. Shannon Ydoyaga currently serves as the Vice President for Academic Affairs at Tarrant County College in Fort Worth, Texas. In this role, she oversees the South campus supporting 130 full-time, tenure-track faculty and six Divisional Deans. She previously served as the Dean of Health Services and Professional Education at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas, where she was in charge of the West Campus with more than seventy Career and Technical Education programs and directly managed five Department Chairs in addition to the computer science and engineering, technology, human services, education, allied health, nursing, and dental and imagining programs. Dr. Ydoyaga holds a doctor of philosophy in education, leadership for higher education from Capella University, a master’s of science in management from Texas A&M at Commerce, and a bachelor of business administration from the University of Mississippi.
