Susan Bitter Smith Named Outstanding Women in Business Honoree

Susan Bitter Smith, President of the Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) Governing Board, has been named among the 25 honorees for the 25th annual Outstanding Women in Business award. This prestigious award, presented by the Phoenix Business Journal, recognizes remarkable women for their contributions and achievements across various industries, including education, real estate, healthcare, and nonprofits.

A Legacy Rooted in Community Progress 

An Arizona native, Bitter Smith is a longtime public servant with decades of leadership experience and a lifelong passion for education advocacy. She currently serves as the President of Technical Solutions, LLC. 

Bitter Smith was first elected to the MCCCD Governing Board, representing District 2, in 2020. She has a longstanding history of community service, including her previous role as Vice Mayor of Scottsdale. A trailblazer, Bitter Smith was the first woman president of the Central Arizona Water Conservation District Board. Additionally, her contributions to Arizona are widely recognized, including running for Congress in Arizona’s 5th Congressional District and being elected to the Arizona Corporate Commission in 2012, where she served as Chair in 2015.

The Phoenix Business Journal’s 25th annual Outstanding Women in Business honors 25 Arizona women executives selected from 289 nominees. Bitter Smith will be honored with the other esteemed honorees during the Outstanding Women in Business awards ceremony on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.
