New Student Orientation
New Student Orientation (NSO) is an essential program to help incoming students like you familiarize themselves with their college, campus, and student resources and services. It also provides a valuable opportunity to connect with faculty, staff, and fellow students. The orientation emphasizes the importance of these connections and resources for your success as a student.
If you have never attended college, participation in your college’s NSO is required. Although NSO will appear on your task list in your Student Center, not completing it will not prevent you from registering for classes in your first semester. However, attending NSO early offers significant benefits, including the opportunity to register for your classes during the orientation. Remember that you must complete this step to receive your degree or certificate.
What will NSO help you accomplish?
- Identify essential technology applications and resources for your success.
- Recognize financial literacy as a critical component of your current and future success.
- Identify precautions, behaviors, and specific steps you can take to optimize your wellness, safety, and security on campus.
- Locate college deadlines, calendars, and policies (including students’ rights and responsibilities).
- Articulate how to establish connections with other students, faculty, and staff.
- Recognize the importance of setting and monitoring your educational, personal, and career goals.
- Identify departments and services that can assist you in achieving success.
- Learn best practices for succeeding in classroom and online environments.
