Assessment and Placement
Admission is determined in accordance with state law (ARS §§15-1805.01 and 15-1821) and regulations of the Maricopa Community Colleges Governing Board. All students under the age of 18 (AR.2.2.2) will be required to demonstrate college readiness for the purpose of admissions. This can be accomplished by self-reporting an unweighted, high school GPA of 2.0 or greater. Students unable to self-report a high school GPA of 2.0 will take the EdReady College Reading assessment with a recommended score of 75 or higher.
Students may use any of the placement measures listed below to satisfy course placement. Note: 9th and 10th grade students are unable to use high school GPA to meet college course placement and will be required to take the appropriate EdReady assessment. Students are required to meet one of the college course placement options: unofficial high school transcript, AP, ACT, SAT, EdReady, or Accuplacer.
Student Assessment and Course Placement Overview
High School Transcript GPA
For 11th and 12th grade students. Student has completed 2+ years of high school coursework in the United States. Student’s high school transcript includes an unweighted, cumulative high school GPA of 2.6 or higher, based on a 4.0 scale. Submit an unofficial transcript with the online Dual Enrollment registration form.
AP (Advanced Placement)
Most AP courses have an end-of-year exam. Before credit is approved, scores must be received directly from CEEB. You will need to have the CEEB/College Board send your official AP scores directly to Admissions and Records at your college.
ACT and SAT
Placement based on individual subject area scores. Submit a copy of your ACT/SAT score with the Dual Enrollment registration form.
EdReady
EdReady is a free online service provided to current and prospective Maricopa students for course placement and learning support in English, math, and reading. Placement based on individual subject area scores. EdReady scores do not expire. Scores will automatically be uploaded to your student account with 24-48 hours.
Accuplacer/WritePlacer
Placement based on individual subject area scores. Students are permitted one retest in English, reading, and/or math after a 24-hour waiting period. A second additional retest is permitted no sooner than three months from the oldest valid score date at any MCCCD placement testing site. Accuplacer scores are valid for 2 years from the date completed. Scores will automatically be uploaded to your student account with 24-48 hours. An appointment is required to take the exam at your college.
