General Counsel
Janice Falkenberg has over 25 years of legal experience with an emphasis in higher education for nearly 20 years. She has successfully managed a variety of legal matters including complex litigation, college risk and compliance issues and has advised boards of directors through governance discussions, policy development, business transactions and counsel on a myriad of legal issues. She is seen as a trusted colleague, leader and legal advisor due to her ability to balance stakeholder interests, identify risk tolerance and provide well-reasoned and effective solutions to complex situations.
Ms. Falkenberg is responsible for overseeing all legal and compliance matters for the District including business law and contracts compliance, EEO and affirmative action, security and privacy matters and litigation.
Prior to joining MCCCD, Ms. Falkenberg served as Vice President and General Counsel for Milwaukee Area Technical College where she was responsible for overseeing all legal, risk and compliance matters, legislative advocacy, as well as the facilities and public safety departments. She was also partner in a Milwaukee law firm representing employers in labor and employment law with a particular emphasis on state and federal employment discrimination litigation, worker’s compensation and health and safety matters.
